The Ins and Outs on Invisalign?

You may have heard about Invisalign before, but we are here to give you the ins and outs on what Invisalign is all about. As one of the services offered at Krengel Dental, Invisalign is an orthodontic product our patients use to straighten teeth. So what is it, how does it work and who is it for?

Your Krengel Dental team is here with answers:

What is it?

Invisalign is a way to straighten your teeth, using advanced 3-D computer imaging to create a treatment plan that will get your teeth from their initial position to the final, straightened, desired position. Using a series of clear, custom-made aligners, your Krengel Dental dentist will guide your treatment as you wear each aligner, moving your teeth closer to a straightened out smile.

Why would I choose Invisalign??

One thing our patients at Krengal Dental love is that Invisalign aligners are practically clear, making them like invisible braces. Because they are removable aligners, patients oftentimes find that it is a more flexible straightening system than using braces. Patients  are able to eat, drink, brush, floss and maintain good oral hygiene while avoiding all the metal, wire and adjusting that comes with braces treatment.

How does Invisalign? differ from braces?

While braces use brackets and wires to move teeth, Invisalign moves teeth into a straight position by placing a controlled force on the teeth through the aligner. The timing of the force on the teeth is controlled by your Krengel Dentist as you move through the treatment and the different aligners used. As opposed to all the teeth moving at once, only certain teeth are moving at a time due to the design of the aligners.

What are the Invisalign? aligners like?

The aligners look similar to tooth-whitening trays made of a clear, thermoplastic material. The material is custom shaped for your teeth and the tooth moving sequence that has been determined by the 3-D computerized imaging, executed and monitored by your Krengel Dentist.

Who gets Invisalign??

Patients who have lost all of their baby teeth, usually in their teenage years are most often eligible to use Invisalign treatment. We have patients who have had braces, looking to straighten their teeth, along with patients who never had orthodontic treatment before. Anyone interested in the product should note that treatment requires dentist visits about once every six weeks to ensure progress. Treatment usually lasts about 12 months.
