Types of Toothpaste

While a trip to get toothpaste may seem like an easy task, there are so many types to choose from, that we are often asked how to navigate the choices by our patients. Having the right toothpaste to accompany your twice-a-day brushing can make a big difference in keeping tooth decay away. We are here to help you get a head start in the toothpaste aisle with information on the different kinds of toothpastes offered and the benefits of each.

  • Tartar Control Toothpaste
    • This type of toothpaste targets the  buildup of plaque and bacteria. By controlling the amount of tartar, the substance that is located along the gumline and can harden overtime, this kind of toothpaste helps to control the build up.
  • Anti-Cavity Toothpaste
    • Anti-Cavity toothpaste helps to remineralize teeth and strengthen enamel by containing fluoride, bringing nutrients to the teeth. Fluoride helps to prevent tooth decay and protect teeth from harmful bacterias.
  • Whitening Toothpaste
    • Be careful when choosing a whitening toothpaste and make sure it is one that will not increase tooth sensitivity by checking with your Krengel Dentist! Whitening toothpastes use gentle agents to remove any surface stains on your teeth, helping to brighten your smile.
  • Sensitivity Toothpaste
    • Once the enamel in our teeth is damaged, the next layer of the tooth, dentin, can be exposed, causing sensitivity. Sensitivity toothpaste can help to desensitize the nerve endings and add a protective layer of dentin to help reduce sensitivity and strengthen the tooth.
  • Natural Toothpaste
    • Many of our patients ask about toothpastes without any artificial ingredients. While these toothpastes oftentimes do not include fluoride, there are some natural toothpastes that can be an excellent agent for your cleaning your teeth. We recommend giving us a ring (952-888-1311) to get feedback from your Krengel Dentist to see if the natural toothpaste you have chosen is a good fit for you.
  • Children?s Toothpaste
    • These toothpastes are specifically formulated for baby teeth, making them appropriate for children under age 12. These toothpastes are less harmful if swallowed, has less fluoride to be more fitting for children?s needs and comes in fun flavors to make it kid friendly!

While our list here is not exhaustive, it should help you get a kick start when choosing the right toothpaste for you and your family. If you want to ask about a toothpaste you?ve chosen or get a personalized recommendation, you know our team looks forward to your call!
