Why Digital X-Rays are Such a Great Deal

Part of our mission at Krengel Dental is investing in the latest dental technology to bring the highest standard of care to our patients. Our team of dentists is always looking out for the most innovative and advanced tools to incorporate high-end dentistry in our practice. One of the high-tech tools we are proud to use is digital radiography. In honor of the 123rd anniversary of Wilhelm Roentgen?s discovery of x-rays, we wanted to take the opportunity to answer some questions about what makes digital x-rays the highest standard of care for our patients.

What are digital x-rays?

  • Digital X-rays use an electronic sensor to capture x-ray images, storing the images directly onto a computer. Digital X-rays use a very small amount of radiation, reducing the patient?s exposure to radiation by about 80%. Digital X-rays allow your Krengel dentist to view and enlarge x-ray images with a lot more ease and a lot less exposure to radiation, making it easier for us to detect any dental problems while keeping our patients safe.

Why are X-rays a necessary part of dentistry?

  • X-rays are an essential part of managing your dental health because they reveal valuable information that cannot be seen by the naked eye. X-rays allow your dentist to see what is going on between and underneath the teeth which helps us plan accurate treatment and detect any problem areas. Some of the things dental X-rays reveal include bone loss, decay between teeth, problems inside a tooth, issues below the gum line and abnormal/poor positioning of your teeth and roots. Having these digital images help us treat dental problems in the early stages, saving you time, money and discomfort.

How often should my dental x-rays be taken?

  • The frequency at which you should be getting dental x-rays depends on your individual needs. We encourage our new patients to get X-rays so that we can fully evaluate your need for dental treatment and get a good baseline for what we are working on. After completing a dental exam, reviewing medical history and taking any risks of disease into account, your Krengel Dental dentist will be able to determine the frequency at which X-rays will be advised in order for us to give you the best quality of care.
