3 Tips to Keep Your Mouth Healthy This Summer

June 9, 2020 by Krengel Dental

Summer sun and summer fun go hand-in-hand. While these warmer months offer plenty of fun in the sun, it’s important to not let them throw off your oral care routine. Below we’ve compiled some ways you can have fun this summer while still keeping your pearly whites shining bright.

Stick to a routine

Whether you’re up late watching fireworks or at a BBQ, make sure you resist the temptation to skip your oral care routine. It’s important to consistently brush and floss, and consistently skipping this part of your routine can lead to extensive damage and decay down the road.

Have little kids in your house? Setting up a household brushing calendar reminds everyone to brush their teeth and when. This simple tip will help keep everyone on track during the warmer months. Even brushing your teeth alongside your children for two minutes and showing them the proper way to floss can help them build lifelong oral care habits.

Stock a Healthy Kitchen

Avoid dental emergencies by investing in healthy snacks for you and your family. We all know that when the kids are home for the summer their favorite thing to do is snack. With a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables available, you can ensure they’re making the healthiest choice each time they snack. Check out a list of teeth-approved summer sweets here.

Limit Sweet Drinks

As the temperature rises, it’s tempting to stay cool with sugary drinks like soda and juice. However, a lot of these drink products tend to contain a lot of sugar and acid, both of which are detrimental to your teeth and can lead to oral decay over time. Limit the number of sweet drinks and choose water whenever possible.
