Four Easy Dental Resolutions to Ring In The New Year

As we start off fresh in 2019 with a clean slate, there is no better time to commit to keeping your teeth clean and fresh for the year as well. At Krengel Dental, we are all about supporting improving your health in a way that is attainable and achievable so that you can smile successfully when you reach your goal. We have come up with five resolutions that are S.M.A.R.T. goals (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and timely) for your teeth.  Here are four resolutions that will make your mouth (and your Krengel Dental team) smile all year long:

1. Brush your teeth every day when waking up and right before bed.

Sure, we bet you aren?t surprised that this is the first one on the list. You may think it?s obvious, but believe it or not, setting a goal or resolution that you stick to for at least 30 days will help this become a habit for your long-term health. Make sure you are brushing your teeth right before bed, after you have consumed all food/drinks for the day. Eating or drinking after brushing your teeth makes you more susceptible to cavities and tooth decay.

2. Floss once a day (and choose a realistic time)

?Don?t forget to floss more!? is a term repeated at our office pretty often, and the best is when our patients come back after making a goal to floss more and notice the difference! We promise that you will be happily surprised at the results when you add flossing to your daily routine and we will be celebrating with you. Flossing just once a day makes a dramatic difference by reducing the amount of plaque and tartar between your teeth, ultimately lowering your chance at cavities and keeping your gums clean. To make this resolutions super S.M.A.R.T., make the time of day as specific as possible and find a type of floss that is comfortable.

3. Schedule two visits with us for the year!

While we will always be here to remind you to make your bi-annual appointments with us, it is important to put these dates with us on the calendar. Making your appointments is also an easy resolution to follow through with, and we will help you succeed by putting in the reminders. When we see you, we are able to identify any developing oral health issues or treatments needed, keeping you happier, healthier in the long run. Call today: 952-888-1311.

4. Stay hydrated!

Did you know that about 80% of our body is made up of water? That means that we need a lot of water in order to keep our entire body working effectively and efficiently. Drinking 64 ounces (8 cups) of water is the general recommendation for adults from health professionals, and we recommend also having water nearby at all times. Regular water intake throughout the day helps with saliva production, keeping your mouth clean and removing leftover food particles. Staying hydrated also improves your mood and increases energy levels.

Wishing you and your entire family a happy, healthy and bright new year from our Krengel Dental family. We hope 2019 is full of moments that make you smile and we are here to make sure it is.
