WHAT IS INVISALIGN?

Invisalign is a process of wearing a series of clear removable aligners that gradually straighten your teeth. Each tray is shaped a little bit different than the last to help achieve movement. There are no brackets, wires, or restrictions that come with metal braces.

Many people want to correct and improve their teeth alignment. If you don’t like the look of metal braces, our staff at Krengel Dental offers a more modern solution with Invisalign orthodontic options in St. Louis Park, MN.

This convenient treatment makes tooth realignment simple — and doesn’t involve clunky wires and brackets. Rather than deal with painful metal brackets that need constant adjustments, you might be a candidate for a more comfortable way to straighten your teeth with removable plastic aligners.

Invisalign uses clear plastic trays that fit your top and bottom teeth. Throughout your treatment plan, you’ll come back to our office to receive new sets of aligners that slowly move your teeth into position.

You’ll wear the aligners for 22 hours a day, but you can easily remove the tray to eat or clean your teeth. Its translucent plastic material makes it an almost-invisible orthodontic treatment, so you don’t have to worry about affecting your smile with noticeable brackets as you straighten your teeth.

The transformation begins with a consultation at our dental office in St. Louis Park, MN. Our staff will examine your teeth to see if you are a good candidate. We’ll then take digital scans of your teeth and physical impressions of your teeth.

We send these impressions to the tray manufacturers to build your custom aligners. With computer software, we’ll plot out each stage of your treatment plan so you can see how each new set of Invisalign aligners will shift your teeth into position.

From there, you simply wear your aligners and come back in for checkups to receive your next set of aligners. Many patients reach their goal within a year and a half.

Invisalign is an excellent alternative to traditional braces. Metal braces involve brackets, wires, and bands. These components create a complex system that needs occasional adjustment from an orthodontist and can pop out of place if you eat sticky or hard foods. Invisalign is made of removable plastic aligners that are much easier to care for.

Traditional braces can also hinder oral hygiene efforts because the wires and brackets cover the tooth’s surface. With Invisalign, you can remove the aligners when you brush and floss.

Braces are highly visible every time you smile. Many patients prefer Invisalign for a more subtle approach.

Invisalign works well for many people who want to straighten or realign their teeth and have minor tooth misalignment. However, we may not recommend this option for patients who have:

  • Dental implants
  • Dental bridges
  • TMJ disorder
  • Severe tooth misalignment or bite issues

If you don’t have these conditions, you might be an ideal candidate for Invisalign treatment.

Invisalign treatment can be a great solution for most adults and teens looking for a virtually invisible method to improve their smile. Invisalign’s innovations and technological advancements make it possible to fix nearly all common crowding, spacing and bite issues — all without interrupting your busy life.

Invisalign achieves much more than just a pretty smile. Crowded and improperly placed teeth are more difficult to clean causing a build-up of calculus and plaque. This extra bacteria can lead to gingivitis, gum recession, bad breath, and periodontal disease. Misaligned teeth can also lead to premature tooth wear and bruxism. Invisalign ensures the teeth are in ideal alignment, resulting in stronger and healthier teeth.

Treatment typically takes 6-24 months. During your treatment, you’ll have regular check-ups with your dentist. Other than that, you just wear your aligners 20-22 hours per day and the rest of your life proceeds normally!

The process of getting Invisalign aligners is very easy. It starts with a digital scan of your teeth and bite at your consultation. That scan is sent, along with some photos, to an Invisalign fabrication lab, where we instruct the Invisalign technicians precisely how each of your Invisalign aligners should be made according to the prescription we made for you.
