Takin’ Off For Summer: Tips on Keeping Teeth Clean During Travel

April showers have brought May flowers! Before we know it, school will be out and summer will be in full swing and whether you and your family are heading on vacation, to camp or staying by the pool,  it?s important to keep up with dental hygiene while on the summer move. Our patients tend to be traveling more often during the summer and it can be hard to keep you and your family?s dental hygiene materials clean while also maintaining your oral health routine. Here are some tips from your friendly Krengel Dental team on how to stay healthy and smiley during summer travel.

  • Give your toothbrush some summer air too!

While our team likes to recommend plastic tooth covers to keep your toothbrush clean, it is very important to make sure that your toothbrush holder has ventilation so that your toothbrush does not stay wet. A wet toothbrush will attract bacteria, so in order to keep your mouth clean, make sure you are keeping your toothbrush dry.

  • Keep it compact

At Krengel Dental, we have noticed that the more dental hygiene items our patients have, the harder it is to travel and keep up with your hygiene routine. Instead of having to unpack and repack dental items, make a compact case with a small or foldable toothbrush, toothpaste and floss. This way, you can keep your compact kit with you wherever summer travel takes you.

  • Stay hydrated!

During the summer months and travel times, it can be hard to know when the next time you can brush will be. An excellent way to keep your mouth clean and keep saliva production up is by drinking water often. A hydrated mouth can also keep from bad breath and bacteria.

  • Keep tabs on sugar

Summer means ice cream among many other sweets and while we are all about the good summer snacks, it is easy to use traveling as an excuse to load up on sugary snacks and sweets. Remember that sugar causes tooth decay and can quickly damage your teeth. Keep the sweets as treats and make sure to always brush your teeth after a sugary snack.

Whatever your summer plans, your Krengal Dental team is here to make sure you enjoy every minute with a picture perfect (healthy and happy) smile. Have any other travel tips for dental hygiene?
