Teeth Talking Points: Four Questions to Ask Your Dentist

It is difficult to know how to prepare for appointments related to health or know what to ask when meeting with any health professional. Asking helpful questions and getting the information you need is a big part of effective dentistry. While our Krengel Dental team is committed to educating our patients and personalizing treatment, we want to share some questions that can help make your next dentist appointment as informative and effective as possible. Here are four questions to consider asking to make the most of your next appointment.

1. How Often Should I Get a Checkup?

While your Krengel Dental team will always remind you to come in every six months for a dental exam, it is important to ask if more frequent checkups would be best practice. When patients need certain dental procedures or are experiencing decay, signs of gum disease or pain, we may recommend coming in more frequently to attend to the concerns proactively and most effectively.

2. Why/When Do I Need to Get X-Rays?

Many times, patients will share that they are not sure why they are getting X-rays. Your dentist can explain how X-rays help with preventative care by pointing out decay, spots or signs of the early stages of problems or needed treatments. Asking about X-rays is a helpful way to get information and make sure your preventative care is up to date.

3. Is there Anything I Should Share With my Medical Doctor?

This is an excellent question to make sure that all of your healthcare providers are engaging in holistic care. Not only does looping in your medical doctor when necessary help to prevent any future health problems, it also helps to ensure you are getting the right care that will attend to the problem most effectively.

4. Do I Need to Change My Diet in Any Way?

Discussing diet is such an important element of dental care since food interacts with our dental hygiene all of the time! Whether you want to ask about a specific food, times you eat or if there are general foods that would be helpful to add or limit in your diet, asking about any recommended dietary changes can go a long way in improving your smile.

As your dental care provider, our Krengel Dental team looks for the best ways to make you an active part of your treatment, educate you and give you helpful information for holistic, personalized care. These questions can be a great way to bring yourself into your treatment and stay on the same page as your dentist and healthy smile. Have any related questions or ready to make an appointment?
