When Should I Go to the Dentist?

By now, we all know that it is recommended to see your dentist every six months or twice a year. This helps keep your mouth healthy and allows your dentist to identify any potential issues before they become worse. However, there may be times when you feel a visit to your dentist is necessary in-between those six months. And just like going to the doctor, it can be difficult to determine whether or not your issue warrants a visit. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of reasons you should make an extra dental appointment if needed.

Bleeding

If you are just starting to get in the habit of flossing your teeth regularly, it is normal to experience a little bit of bleeding at first. However, if the bleeding does not stop after the first week or so, or you notice bleeding when brushing your teeth, this could be a sign that it’s time to pay your dentist a visit. Often times, when left untreated, bleeding gums can lead to a host of other periodontal issues, especially gum disease.

Pain

If there’s ever a time where you experience pain in your mouth – whether it be tooth sensitivity, throbbing, aching, or stabbing pain, please notify your dentist right away. Pain is usually an indication that something is not right so a visit to the dentist is crucial to locating the cause.

Appliances Not Fitting

Do you wear dentures, bridge or any other appliance in your mouth? If you do, you know that having a proper fit is really important. If at any time you notice that your appliance is too snug (or loose), a visit to your dentist is just what you’ll need to get it back on track.

Of course, if you anything else feels or looks off or if you experience any unusual symptoms, it’s always better safe than sorry.
