Things Every Person with Dentures Should Know

Dentures are a great option if you need to replace multiple missing teeth in one go. Their removable nature makes them a great option for many patients and are the preferred option for some, over other options like implants and bridges. However, if you are considering getting dentures, here are a few things to keep in mind beforehand.

Choose the Right Type

Did you know that there are several different types of dentures to choose from? That’s right! Dentures can either be classified as partial, complete, conventional, or immediate. Some replace entire rows of teeth, some just replace a few, whereas others are just a temporary solution while your mouth heals. Each type of denture has a different purpose and your dentist will work with you to determine which ones are best for you.

Clean Them Often

Just like your natural teeth, dentures required to be cleaned every single day! Your dentist will provide you with a special toothbrush for cleaning the dentures, which do not cause any damage to them. It’s also important to be mindful of what you consume with your dentures in, as certain foods and beverages can stain the ceramic.

Remove When Not in Use

If ever not in use, dentures should be removed to keep them safe. This is especially true before going to bed at night. Leaving your dentures in overnight can cause serious damage to your gumline and the dentures themselves. Whenever the dentures are not in use, leave them in a glass of water or denture-cleansing solution.

They Will Require Repairs

Dentures are made up of a combination of acrylic and dental-grade ceramic. While these materials make it so the dentures are built to last, they will require repairs from time to time. The inner lining of the dentures, for example, can start to wear away over time and become quite uncomfortable for the patient to wear. Just like your teeth need regular visits to the dentist, your dentures will need to be repaired and restored at regular intervals to keep them in good condition.
