There are many ways that technology is changing dentistry for the better. One huge benefit of innovation in dentistry is that dental procedures are getting increasingly easier, faster, less painful, and more accurate as the years go on. Today, we wanted to share more about the dental technology we use for common dental procedures, and why we think this innovation in dentistry truly elevates your care with us.
Innovation in Dentistry: Dental Technology We Use for Dental Procedures
The Latest in Dental Technology Imaging
iTero Scanner
Before we start any dental procedure, we will need proper imaging of your mouth. One dental technology that we love for this is the iTero Scanner. This scanner scans your mouth to visualize restorative dental treatments such as crowns, bridges, veneers, and Invisalign. Not only that, but it has time-lapse technology so you can see how this procedure will adapt to your mouth over the months and years to come.
3D CBCT
Another form of new imaging that we love is the 3D CBCT or Cone Beam Computed Tomography Scan. This scan is a type of x-ray that allows us to see 3D images of your teeth, jawbones, and surrounding tissues. This scan is especially helpful for planning dental procedures like dental implants, bone grafts, or wisdom teeth surgery.
Intra-Oral Camera
We use an intra-oral camera to take photos of oral structures inside your mouth for effective patient record keeping as well as to visually show you any problems we find. This dental technology helps us find oral problems like gum disease and tooth decay earlier than we would with traditional methods as it shows the outside of your gums and teeth in high detail.
Dental Technologies That Improve Dental Procedures
Diode Laser
A diode laser uses light to perform dental procedures such as removing soft tissue, treating gum disease, and treating root sensitivity. During these procedures, the laser is able to seal blood vessels, which minimizes bleeding. Patients find that this method typically results in less pain and promotes faster healing than traditional methods. The postoperative risk of infection is also less than other treatments.
CAD/CAM
With CAD/CAM (computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing) , we use impression-free technology to design porcelain and zirconia dental restorations. That means no gooey mess when trying to take impressions of your teeth! It is also a same-day procedure, making these dental restorations incredibly fast even though they are custom-made.
CEREC
CEREC, which stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, is a dental tool we use to make custom same-day dental restorations. This technology allows us to place a dental crown in one visit, as opposed to multiple visits with previous methods and dental technologies. This method uses CAD/CAM (computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing) to make these crowns.
Zoom Whitening
If you are interested in whitening your teeth, we highly recommend trying our Zoom Whitening System. Zoom Whitening is an in-office teeth whitening technology that uses hydrogen peroxide gel and blue LED lights to whiten your teeth. It is non-invasive and customizable to your needs!
