Things Every Parent Needs to Know About Baby Teeth

One of the most memorable times in parenting is when your baby starts sprouting its first set of teeth. Babies start to grow teeth six months after their birth till about age three. Before your child’s first teeth begin to appear, however, it is paramount for you, as a parent, to arm yourself with the proper knowledge to ensure your child is well cared for.

Teething can be excruciating for both you and the baby if necessary steps are not taken. However, you can make this stage exciting with these must-know tips and facts below.

Schedule their first dental appointment

One of the first things you must do as soon as your child’s teeth start breaking out is to fix an appointment with a practitioner. The dentist will give you a formal lecture on how best to care for your child’s teeth, check for issues that might be wrong, and recommend treatment plans, if needed.

It is highly recommended that you regularly visit the dentist throughout your child’s developmental stage. We recommend at least twice a year.

When should you start brushing a baby’s teeth?

Your child’s good dental habits begin with you. Brushing your child’s teeth should start from the moment the teeth start showing—this will prevent the teeth from decaying and get the child used to this beneficial habit. In the beginning you can just use a small toothbrush and water to brush their teeth; once they are introduced to foods you can switch over to a pea-sized amount of a kid-friendly  toothpaste with added fluoride.

Why Fluoride?

You can eliminate cavities by giving your baby fluoride, as it helps coat their teeth. Cavities erode the tooth’s topmost surface, which will be impossible with fluoride’s action.

To keep your child healthy, give them tap water containing fluoride, brush their teeth with toothpaste containing fluoride, or give them fluoride products.
