How Long Does It Take To Whiten Your Teeth

When our patients consider teeth whitening, one of the first questions they ask is how long the process will take. However, the answer largely depends on the individual patient and the condition of their teeth. Factors such as how the teeth became discolored and the type of treatment the patient wants, can greatly influence how long the process takes.

Method of Whitening Teeth

The process of teeth whitening involves using chemicals to penetrate the enamel of your teeth and work from the inside out to bleach your teeth. Professional bleaching is the usual route our patients choose, and in order to get started on the process, we must first make a professional mouthguard of our patient’s teeth. This allows us to properly apply the treatment to the teeth, and prevents any missed spots or the gums being effected. Once applied, he treatment then breaks down and enters into the enamel, bleaching the teeth.

How Long Will It Take?

When it comes to whitening teeth, once again, it is important to know that the number of sessions required will depend on the severity of the discoloration on the teeth. A typical professional teeth whitening treatment takes anywhere from three to four weeks to begin seeing results. And as previously mentioned, there are steps your dental team must take to get ready for the treatment, such as preparing your mouthguard.

At Krengel Dental, we offer Zoom whitening which takes about two hours in office. The other option is to have us create custom mouthguards for you so you can do all of the whitening at home.
